I wonder how I come across to all you fine people who read my humble little blog. Do I seem like a nice atheist with a heart of gold? Do I seem like a malignant troll? Evil beyond measure as I try to corrupt impressionable minds and turn them from god? It’s interesting to ponder how others see you.

Anyhoo, enough self-examination. Let’s get on with what I have for you today. Sheer mischievous wickedness, I’m afraid. Please don’t mind the fact that there is also a bit of shameless self promotion. That is quite unintentional. This is really about the mischievousness. And the wickedness. Don’t forget that too. :P

As you may know, my brilliant husband Butch and I make t-shirts. A lot of them are anti-religious in nature. Recently we made one entitled Slave to Fairy Tales. Here it is on a t-shirt:

Slave to Fairy Tales shirt
Slave to Fairy Tales by SirLeeTees

It says: “Slave to Fairy Tales? Might I suggest something with a better story line and more believable characters, like Mother Goose or Aesop’s Fables?”

I also put it on a sticker: Read more…

A week ago I did a post called 50 Old Testament Inconsistencies. It was just something I thought might be a bit different to share with everyone. I didn’t write it but I linked to where I had found it and also to the Skeptic’s Annotated Bible’s list of contradictions. Apparently some people found it recently and it’s gotten some traffic, mainly by christians who are none too pleased. I guess I hit a nerve.

In my experience, most people don’t know how to argue effectively. I myself am not very good at it. I hate arguing, and conflict in general. But I think personal attacks are really uncalled for, especially when one person states an opinion and the other person counters with a personal attack. It just shows lack of ability to handle a disagreement.

By the way, this is called the Ad Hominem Logical Fallacy as I wrote about previously.

Sometimes I wonder if people do it on purpose because it’s so easy to lash out at someone and so hard to defend. I think they do, the more I see it happen. And frankly I think it’s weak and lazy. Read more…

September

It’s September already. Talk of Thanksgiving and xmas is already starting to fill the air. I’m sure by now the aisles of every Walmart in this country are being switched over to the xmas junk. I’ve seen xmas stuff out as early as August in previous years. So it’s just a matter of time.

I’ve been a full on, black belt atheist for about 8 years now. Every year I hate the holidays a bit more. But until just recently I’ve kept my godlessness to myself.

When my sister in law insisted last year that people say merry christmas instead of happy holidays, I just rolled my eyes and kept saying what I was comfortable with, even though it made her mad that I was not keeping christ in christmas. Read more…

You know the type, I’m sure. They’re all flashy and fun in the beginning. Mildly entertaining, shiny and interesting. Then they start to sputter. You see that you’re just dealing with flash signifying nothing, but it only happens for a brief moment. The flash and sparkly goodness comes back and you go on with your new friend.

But then the sputtering happens more frequently. And finally their spark and interest dies completely. And you are left with a flimsy little stick in your hand, wondering, why the hell was I even amused by such trivia in the first place?

You’re not necessarily mad at the person for being a “flash in the pan” but you’re kind of irritated with yourself for falling for the sparkle, the glamour. Read more…
