As if I needed any more proof that islam is barbaric, insane and disgusting, I found this video last night at AtheistNation. muslims have the gall to call themselves a religion of peace? Could you be any more hypocritical than that? Insane. Completely insane.

I’ve been wanting to talk about this ever since I found out about it, but finding the video brought this issue to the forefront and gave me a clear venue for expressing my thoughts. A few months ago, my husband told me that muhammad was a pedophile. I admit I’d never read the quran so I didn’t know that. What could be more reprehensible than for a 52 year old man to fuck a 9 year old girl? There is no nice way to say it. It’s rape, it’s barbaric, it’s sick and evil, and beyond comprehension.

If I believed in divine providence I would say that destiny helped me stumble upon the following movie. But I’m as godless as can be, so I just have to thank whoever posted Religulous to AtheistNation. I don’t go to the movies, so I didn’t get to see it in the theaters. But I watched it a bit ago and I have to say I’m glad I did. It was excellent.

Here are 20 reasons I have to be godless. Consider it a work in progress because I’m sure there are plenty of other great reasons I am not thinking of right now. I certainly welcome your suggestions for future lists and refinements.

1. I understand that Zeus, Santa, the Easter Bunny, Odin, Osiris and all of their ilk are fairy tale characters, stories made up to explain things that weren’t known at the time, or to get weak-minded people to do what someone wanted. They are all just stories to tell to children or sheep, to keep them in line or entertain them. Jesus, Yahweh, Allah and Jehovah are no different. I’ve studied world religions. I wonder how I come across to all you fine people who read my humble little blog. Do I seem like a nice atheist with a heart of gold? Do I seem like a malignant troll? Evil beyond measure as I try to corrupt impressionable minds and turn them from god? It’s interesting to ponder how others see you.

Anyhoo, enough self-examination. Let’s get on with what I have for you today. Sheer mischievous wickedness, I’m afraid. Please don’t mind the fact that there is also a bit of shameless self promotion. That is quite unintentional. This is really about the mischievousness. And the wickedness. Don’t forget that too.

I’ve been an atheist for around 8 years, most of which I’ve spent in the religious closet, so to speak. Before that, I was an agnostic, searching constantly for answers but not positive that there wasn’t some kind of god out there that created everything.

In all that time, I kept my godlessness relatively private, telling very few people. Mainly I wanted to avoid confrontation. I didn’t really know how to debate or defend myself, so I felt it was a personal issue and kept it to myself.

In the last 8 years though, I’ve watched this poor country polarize itself in politics and religion to an alarming degree and wallow in gross ignorance. I’ve realized relatively recently that being in the closet wasn’t helping anything.

I couldn’t be myself when talking to people because being a skeptical atheist is a huge part of my life. I guess when I fully and finally sloughed off the dead weight of god, religion and superstitions, I also lost a large part of the foundation of my belief system. It really rocked me. I realized a lot of what I believed was nonsense and lies.

So I’ve had to rebuild what I believe in, my atheist worldview, so to speak.

The thing is, being in the religious closet has only served to isolate me from other people of like mind, as well as keep ideas limited to just what I read or experience personally. Then I discovered the atheist and skeptical world. I realized I wasn’t alone, and I finally came out of the damned closet. Read more…
